Christmas compote from dried fruits

Christmas compote from dried fruits

Dried fruits compote is traditional beverage served during Polish Christmas feasts. It’s not only delicious but also helps digest all these wonderful and delicious treats. It can be prepared in many different ways but mine is sugarfree, quite minimalistic and simple and only lightly spiced with cloves, cinnamon.

Ingredients

100g dried apples
200 g dried prunes (you can use smoked prunes for extra whiskeyisg flavour, but I definitely go for unsmoked)
100 g dried pears
1L boiling water
10 cloves
pinch of cinnamon

Recipe

1. Simmer all dried fruits in 1L of boiling water for approximately 0,5h.
2. Remove from heat, add cinnamon and cloves and allow to cool
3. Strain and serve chilled. I you think that your compote is too thick, feel free to add a bit more water.

4. If you want to be more eco, you can reuse your dried fruits leftovers from the compote. Again add boiling water, set aside and then simmer on a low heat again for half an hour. You will get additional, but smaller batch of compote.
